About our Guide

aaron_face.jpgCapt. Aaron Ramón Reed is the owner of Kiskadee Fishing & Birding Charters and your guide aboard his Shoalwater Flats 18.

Aaron is a native of the Texas Gulf Coast (one grandfather was a federale in Mexico City before becoming a merchant mariner sailing out of Corpus Christi and Houston; the other moved from Kansas to Rockport specifically for the fishing in 1957) and has been plying Texas bays at the helm of his own vessel since he was 13.

An avid inshore fishing enthusiast, he happily shares with clients a rare passion for the Texas Gulf Coast, its ecosystems and flora and fauna. A longtime and award-winning outdoor writer, Aaron has served as boating editor for Texas Fish & Game magazine and paddlesports editor for Texas Sporting Journal. He is currently a regular contributor to Lone Star Outdoor News and is a member of the Texas Outdoor Writers Association and the Coastal Bend Guides Association.

AaronSnook_Brownsville.jpg“Fishing, for me, has always been more than a ‘hobby.’ It’s no exaggeration to say that fishing has saved my life, more than once,” Aaron says. “And it’s always been about more than just catching fish: the whole experience of being outdoors on the Texas coast captivated me at a very young age, and I wanted to know from my very first outing on the flats what that bird was called, or why that fish species could be found here in July but not November, or what purpose sea grasses serve. It’s been a life-long pleasure learning from others, and educating myself, about those sorts of things.”

Aaron also has worked as a wildlife and fisheries information specialist for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and has been a certified sail boarding instructor, a lifeguard and a daily newspaper reporter. His first job after obtaining a driver’s license was as a duck hunting “guide boy” at the historic Port Bay Club in Rockport, Texas. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Aaron_01.jpgAaron holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master's License with towing assistance endorsement and is a licensed fishing guide. He is a TPWD certified boating education instructor and angler education instructor. The proud father of two boys, he loves to teach youngsters and understands that making the experience fun is more important than filling a cooler with fish.

Aaron is a former director of the Florida-based Snook Foundation, where he developed the online angler action program, and currently serves as chairman of the Texas Snook Alliance.
